Cheers privacy policy
Last updated: 9 October 2026
Cheers is an app for logging the drinks you have and sharing them with your friends. This policy explains what information Cheers holds about you, why, who else handles it, and what you can do about it.
Cheers is run by Alex Pearson, based in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). We are the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at hello@cheers-drinks.co.uk.
Cheers is for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly hold information about anyone younger, and we delete any account we learn belongs to someone under 18.
What we hold
Details you give us when you sign up
- Your first and last name
- Your email address
- Your password, stored in a scrambled form that we can't read
- Your birthday, which we use only to check you're 18 or over
- Your username
Details you can add later
- A profile photo
- A phone number
What you log
For each drink: its name, type, strength (ABV), your rating, the date, and anything else you choose to add. That can include a photo, a price, notes, and the name of the place you had it.
What you do with other people
- Who your friends are, and friend requests you've sent or received
- Cheers and comments you leave on friends' drinks, and likes on comments
- People you've blocked
- Reports you send us about a person, a post or a comment
Your location, if you allow it
When you add a place to a drink, Cheers can use your phone's location to suggest places nearby. This only happens if you allow it, and only while you're choosing a place. We don't track your location, and we don't store it. We store only the name of the place you choose.
Your camera and photos, if you allow them
Cheers uses your camera to photograph a drink, and your photo library if you choose an existing photo. It only has the photos you take or choose in the app.
What we don't collect
Cheers has no advertising and no advertising trackers. We don't work out or store how much alcohol you drink, and we don't sell your information to anyone.
What we use it for
| What we do | Our legal reason |

Who can see what
- Your friends can see your name, username, profile photo, the drinks you log, and your cheers and comments.
- Other people on Cheers can find you by name or username, and can see your name, username, profile photo, and how many friends and drinks you have. They can't see your drinks.
- Nobody else on Cheers can see your email address, phone number or birthday.
- Someone you've blocked can't see your profile, drinks or comments, and you can't see theirs.
Companies that handle information for us
We use a small number of companies to run Cheers. They handle your information only on our instructions.
- Supabase stores accounts, logs and photos, and runs sign-in. Our data is held in London.
- Anthropic provides the AI that reads a drink's label. When you tap Auto-fill, the photo is sent to Anthropic to be read, and the name and type it finds come back to your form for you to check. Under Anthropic's terms for this service, it doesn't use these photos to train its AI models.
- Resend sends account emails, such as the code to confirm your address.
- OpenStreetMap finds places when you add one to a drink. It receives what you type in the search box and, if you've allowed location, roughly where you are.
Some of these companies are based outside the UK, including in the United States. Where your information is sent abroad, it's protected by safeguards that UK law recognises, such as approved contract terms.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as you have an account.
- Deleting a drink removes it and its photo.
- Deleting your account removes your profile, your drinks and their photos, your friendships, and your cheers and comments, straight away. You can do this in the app: Settings, then Account Details, then Delete Account. Copies in our provider's backups are overwritten within 30 days.
- Reports you've sent are deleted with your account. Reports about you are kept until they've been dealt with.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the information we hold about you
- correct anything that's wrong
- delete your information
- stop or limit how we use it
- give you your information in a form you can take elsewhere
You can change most of your details yourself in Settings. For anything else, email hello@cheers-drinks.co.uk. We'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
